What is BioThane®, and how is it different from leather or nylon?

BioThane® is a premium PVC coated webbing with the look and feel of leather - but it’s 100% waterproof, odour-resistant and wipe-clean.

Unlike leather or nylon, it doesn’t absorb water, stretch, or hold smells, and it’s incredibly durable. That means your dog’s collar will stay fresh, strong and colourful no matter what adventures you go on.

Is the Classic Range durable enough for everyday use?

Absolutely! Our Classic BioThane® collars are built for daily wear and all-weather use. The coated Biothane® webbing is waterproof, odour-resistant, and quick-drying, while the lightweight alloy hardware provides reliable strength for everyday use.

Is BioThane® comfortable for my dog?

Absolutely. BioThane® is smooth, flexible and non-absorbent, meaning it won’t rub or irritate your dog’s neck. It’s especially good for dogs with long coats or sensitive skin, as the slick surface helps prevent matting, fur loss and irritation. It stays comfortable even during wet or muddy walks.

How do I clean my Classic BioThane® Collar?

It couldn’t be easier - just wipe with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. When muddy or very dirty, rinse it under the tap, or soak in soapy water and pat dry after. No soaking, no machine washing - just quick, effortless cleaning.

If used at the beach, give the hardware a good rinse in fresh water to remove salt.

Will the colour fade over time?

BioThane® is known for its vibrant, long-lasting colour, but like any material, lighter or neon shades may show wear sooner especially with heavy use, less frequent cleaning or prolonged UV exposure.

Your collar will keep its look beautifully with simple care - just avoid strong chemicals or insect repellents on the material.

Is BioThane® suitable for dogs with allergies or sensitive skin?

Yes - BioThane® is non-porous and hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for dogs prone to skin irritation. It doesn’t absorb dirt, bacteria, or moisture, helping to prevent itching or rashes often caused by traditional materials.

What happens if my dog gets the collar wet?

Nothing at all - that’s the beauty of BioThane®! The material is completely waterproof and quick-drying, so you can simply leave it and carry on with your day. If it's dirty give it a quick wipe, that's all. It won’t absorb moisture or develop that “wet dog” smell - ever.

How should I choose the right size?

You’ll find a Size Guide on each product page, showing how to measure your dog’s neck correctly. If your dog is between sizes or you’re unsure, just pop us a message - our team is always happy to help ensure the perfect fit.

Can I personalise or customise a Classic BioThane® Collar?

Yes! You can add your dog’s name or number engraving to most of our Biothane® products and we can adjust sizing if needed. You can add personalisation, splatter upgrades, in our Extra's and Upgrade section.
