What is BioThane®, and how is it different from leather or nylon?

BioThane® is a premium PVC coated webbing with the look and feel of leather - but it’s 100% waterproof, odour-resistant and wipe-clean.

Unlike leather or nylon, it doesn’t absorb water, stretch, or hold smells, and it’s incredibly durable. That means your dog’s collar will stay fresh, strong and colourful no matter what adventures you go on.

Are these Leads okay for everyday use?

Absolutely! Our BioThane® Slip collars are built for daily wear and all-weather use. The coated Biothane® webbing is waterproof, odour-resistant, and quick-drying, while the lightweight alloy hardware provides reliable strength for everyday use.

What is a Slip Lead and how does it work?

A Slip Lead combines a collar and lead in one easy design.

It slips over your dog’s head and tightens slightly when they pull, helping you maintain gentle, responsive control. When relaxed, it loosens again automatically. It’s a simple, collar-free option that’s quick to use for walks, training, or working dogs.

Is a Slip Lead safe for my dog?

Yes, when used correctly.

Every Trinkety Paws Slip Lead includes a built-in Stop Ring to prevent over-tightening, protecting your dog’s neck from strain.

There’s also an adjustable BioThane® stopper that keeps the loop comfortably in place so it won’t slip off accidentally.

What dogs are Slip Leads suitable for?

Slip Leads are ideal for dogs who walk calmly on lead or are in training, as well as working and gundog breeds.

They’re especially popular for quick on-off control between working, training or exercise sessions.

For heavy pullers or very small breeds, we recommend our standard buckle collars, harnesses and Handsfree Training Lead for better pressure distribution.

How should I fit a Slip Lead correctly?

Slide the loop over your dog’s head and adjust the stopper so it rests comfortably high on the neck, just behind the ears. The loop should form a “P” shape when viewed from the handler’s side - this ensures smooth tightening and loosening.

Are your Slip Leads waterproof and easy to clean?

Yes - they’re made from genuine Beta® BioThane®, which is 100% waterproof, mud-proof, and odour-resistant.

Simply wipe with warm soapy water or rinse under the tap and it’s ready to go again. No more soggy fabric or lingering smells after walks!

Will the BioThane® material hurt or rub my dog’s neck?

No - BioThane® is smooth, flexible, and non-abrasive. It doesn’t absorb moisture or dirt, so it stays soft against your dog’s coat and skin.

It’s also hypoallergenic, making it a great option for dogs with skin sensitivities.

How strong are the Slip Leads?

Extremely strong - BioThane® webbing has a breaking strength of over 280 kg, and our hardware is strength-tested for reliability. These leads are suitable for small through to large, powerful breeds.

Do Slip Leads replace training or anti-pull equipment?

Slip Leads can work alongside gentle training by using pressure-and-release cues, but they’re not designed as a permanent anti-pull solution, or without any training.

We always recommend pairing their use with positive reinforcement and proper training techniques for best results.
