What is a Traffic Leash or Short Control Lead?

A Traffic Leash (also known as a short control lead or traffic handle) is a compact 12” (30 cm) lead that keeps your dog close by your side. It’s designed for situations where you need maximum control - such as busy streets, training sessions, or when walking around other dogs or people.

It is also a great add on to our Waterproof Long Lines, as it serves as detachable Handle for those.

When would I use a Traffic Leash?

Traffic Leads are perfect for:

  • Busy or crowded environments (e.g. towns, markets, vet visits)
  • Training sessions where close handling is needed
  • Strong or excitable dogs that require more control in certain situations

    They’re ideal as an add-on to your regular walking setup - easy to grab and use when you need your dog close and secure.

Can I attach it to any collar or harness?

Yes - our Traffic Leashes attach to any standard collar or harness. They’re compatible with all Trinkety Paws collars and training leads.

Is it comfortable to hold for strong dogs?

Absolutely. The BioThane® material has a smooth, flexible grip that’s comfortable in hand, even with powerful pullers. The handle is designed to sit securely in your palm without slipping or digging in - giving you confidence and control, no matter your dog’s strength.

How strong are your Traffic Handles?

Each lead has a minimum break-strength of over 280 kg, making it suitable for medium to XL breeds.

Our hardware options - including solid Brass, Stainless Steel, and aircraft-grade Aluminium carabiners, which would add to the strength even further ensure total reliability during use.

Are they waterproof and easy to clean?

Yes - made from genuine BioThane®, they’re 100% waterproof, mudproof, and odour-resistant.

Simply wipe with warm soapy water or rinse under the tap and it’s clean again in seconds. Perfect for wet walks, muddy trails, and beach adventures.

Can I get a matching collar or long line?

Definitely! You can pair your Traffic Lead with any of our matching BioThane® collars or long lines for a coordinated look.

Each piece is made to order, so you can choose matching colours and hardware finishes for a complete walking set.

Do you offer different lengths?

Our standard Traffic Lead is 12” (30 cm), which is suitable for most size dogs. But we can create custom lengths on request - just contact us before ordering.

Can I personalise or customise a my BioThane® Traffic Handle?

Yes! You can add your dog’s name or number engraving to most of our Biothane® products and we can adjust sizing if needed. You can add personalisation, splatter upgrades, in our Extra's and Upgrade section.
